Rustic Furniture Art by Mike Prankerd
For that special gift or as a design
feature for your home, why not consider buying a unique handmade chair?
Mike Prankerd designs and makes chairs from Hazelwood grown on the Gower Peninsula near Swansea. Each chair is made
using techniques, joints and old tools traditional to woodland craftworkers. The chairs are wax finished and are for indoor use.
Some chair designs are inspired from the natural forms of the wood. Others are called 'theme' chairs built using old artifacts
in the construction. Driftwood collected from Gower beaches is also used to produce striking designs.
Mike exhibits and sells his work via a few Art galleries, attending shows and by word of mouth. Some of his work is undertaken via commissions
where the customer asks for a particular style or theme for the design. Greenwood Designs is not a business, it is a hobby.
Mike's chairs fall into three main types: -
* Rustic/Country chairs
* Theme chairs
* Driftwood chairs
The 'Rustic' or 'Country' chairs take the natural forms of the wood making each chair unique.
The 'Driftwood' chairs use wood and washed up items from Gower beaches. The driftwood is washed, dried and tested before becoming part of a chair.
The 'Theme' chairs incorporate artifacts relating to an occupation, hobby or topic for example a 'Mariners Chair'.
Typically, a chair takes about one week of spare time to design and make.
The price of each chair reflects the time, energy, materials and craftsmanship involved.
Mike gains enormous personal satisfaction in producing each chair and in seeing his creations
being appreciated by customers who understand the qualities, craftsmanship and style of rustic art furniture.
Chairs can be made to order, in particular styles and themes. Delivery in the UK can be arranged.
